and this is what the girls’ Grandad said in our Visitors book:

“Very welcome and comfortable.  Just enough culture and erudition (lot more if requested!) and beautiful countryside - orchids and black kites especially.  Smaller grandaughter learned to swim.  A great success.  Thank you.”

“What a fabulous 2 weeks experience! Marc said: all I had to do was pour wine and take pictures - everything else was left to Steve & Judie.  Their incredible thoughtfulness and warm hospitality made the visits to caves, castles, gardens, medieval towns fascinating and mind expanding.  We learned so much yet were relaxed - the days were well planned - we did a lot without feeling rushed, there was time for spontaneous detours and there were many ‘extras’ - the vendange (grape harvesting) and the 9 course feast afterward, the walk to Lascaux, and the informative visits to many early gothic churches.  We had been wanting to visit Dordogne for years and this far exceeded all expectations (we even found enough foie gras for Marc!)”

Marc & Vivian, Washington DC, USA October 2007

“I would like to  thank Steve & Judie for their outstanding hospitality, engaging knowledge of the area and making us feel relaxed and comfortable, not forgetting Judie’s amazing culinary delights - delicious! Thanks again and look forward to our next visit”.

What a fantastic week!! Everyday was a wonderful adventure... Sarlat’s Wednesday market was great (get there early!) Beynac - stunning.  Everything is steeped in so much history. We loved the ‘prehistoric’ visits, Chateau de Losse is beautiful. A great holiday - can’t wait for our next visit.

Chris, Cate & Joe, Jersey August 2007

So we returned!  It has been a wonderful fortnight - though two weeks is not enough....  Steve & Judie you are fantastic!  Les Rosiers really is a peaceful place and we have so enjoyed being able to stop, take deep breaths and look at another world and the very ancient history here.  Font de Gaume was utterly magical! Sarlat is just beautiful. Rocamadour was - busy! But worth a visit. We just love the feeling of  being cocooned in a timeless place....we will be back again.  Stay in our dreams!  PS Rod says ‘Flints’ was one of the best experiences ever - we knapped our own flints, used them to make fat lamps and hurled spears in a feeble fashion at plastic deer/bear.... it was a hoot!

Rod, Yvonne, Malcolm & Sophie-Claire August 2007

“We have travelled locally and seen a lot of sights, I especially liked Chateau de Losse, La Madeleine troglodyte village and Lascaux - the cave paintings were stunning.  The swimming pool here was a real bonus, in fact, we may have to have one at home!  The gardens were sedate and it was nice to unwind with one of your books. All in all a smashing holiday. Thank you to our excellent hosts.

Kate & Karl, Chetnole July 2007

“Another wonderful week spent with Steve & Judie.  Second visits to many grottes, so much more seen and understood but feel a third visit would be beneficial!  Watch this space.”

Millie, Bridport June 2007

“Thank you for a wonderful introduction to the caves of this region which I had long wished to see. This is the first of what I hope will be many visits with you. Next time - canoeing and fennel ice cream!

“Thanks for a really wonderful time.  Lovely place, lovely food, stunning area and excellent hospitality.  A holiday to remember”

We have learnt so much and ‘toujours les questions’ Steve. Feel I have a good base of knowledge through Steve’s help from which to research more.  Cannot get over how wonderful the cave paintings are - they leave me in awe of our ancestors.

Penny & June, East Yorkshire, May 2007

“A lovely peaceful place with plenty to do and see in the area or chill out as you wish.  Will recommend to our friends.  Back to reality today.

Pete & Pam, Lymington, April 2007

“Meeting Steve & Judie at church on Christmas day led us to spending this memorable day with them. To be treated by all of Steve’s vast knowledge and Judie’s warm hospitality will always be a special memory.  Thank you”.

Ian Ali & family, Hamilton, New Zealand, December 2006

“A truly wonderful peaceful spot.  We have been blessed with warm sunny days and have been spoiled by Steve & Judie.  They have put together a fantastic programme for us and we are truly grateful.  Back to bustling Bridport tomorrow - sadly.”

Baz & Millie, Bridport, November 2006

Absolutely marvellous hospitality and every kindness imaginable - including taking Richard for an emergency appointment with the dentist! “

Sheila, Kay, Richard & Marie, September 2006

“What a fantastic place to come and stay!  The house is beautiful in this quiet little village with so much to see and do all within easy driving distance.  Steve & Judie are wonderful and can tell you all about this fabulous region and its rich history.  Steve’s talk about the area and the visit to Lascaux II is amazing - Steve puts the whole Lascaux story into context and it is stunning to find out so much about the land and people.

We’ve been here two weeks - not long enough!  Les Rosiers is somewhere to relax. The pool is quite fantastic! And of course totally weather proof!  All quite idyllic.

The whole area has unfolded before our eyes and will be held in our dreams until we return.”
